15 night, 16 day Good Hope Train adventure

This journey offers an amazingly comprehensive view of South Africa taking in the internationally regarded "must see" locations. As the train travels the length and breadth of the country guests can enjoy the great variety of landscapes, shorelines, cultures and lifestyles that the "Rainbow Nation" has to offer. There is the basic journey and then there are addiitonal "Add On" extras.

Your journey starts by you being met at Johannesburg International Airport and transferred to the train.

Day One - Panorama Route
Leave Johannesburg and travel east to Nelspruit. Here you will visit Pilgrim's Rest where Gold was first discovered in 1873.

Day Two - Kruger National Park
The Train moves on over night from Nelspruit to Kaapmuiden and in the morning, you have the opportunity of going into the Kruger Park for the day. There are alternative "Add On" tours which include overnight at game lodges
and a Balloon safari.

Day Three - Kruger National Park or Swaziland
Depending on what you want to do, another day in the park or a road excursion into Swaziland to see everyday life in Africa's smallest Kingdom. The train leaves in the evening back to Johannesburg.

Day Four - Pretoria/Johannesburg/Soweto
A full day program for your to choose from. A visit to Johannesburg and Soweto or Pretoria and Soweto. The Soweto township visit is one of the highlights of the tour - see the real "heartbeat" of South Africa. The train leaves for Durban in the evening.

Day Five - Durban
Durban is the third largest city in South Africa and enjoys a sub tropical climate with lovely beaches and warm seas. In the morning you go on an orientation drive of the city and in the afternoon you have the option to visit Africa's largest marine theme park or spiritual tour including a visit to Mahatma Ghandi's settlement or a visit to the Umgeni River Bird Park. The Train remains in Durban overnight.

Day Six - Northern Zululand
Leaving the train in the morning, you will be taken for a drive into Shakaland. You will overnight at the Zulu Nyala Heritage Safari Lodge having had the opportunity to visit the Hluhluwe-Umfolozi Game Reserve whist there.

Day Seven - Southern Zululand
An early morning game drive and a visit to the St. Lucia Wetlands for the rest of the day. An alternative "Add On" is the St. Lucia based Whale Tour (July to December). You return to Durban late afternoon and the train departs for Ladysmith.

Day Eight - Ladysmith - Midlands/Southern Drakensberg
Heading into the Drakensberg, you have a choice of activities. You can trace the course of the Anglo Boer War and visit the Siege Museum as well as the famous Spioenkop battle site or you can take in the Milands Meander - a journey through the arts and craft world of the local people to include a visit to Howick Falls and beer tasting at Nottingham Road. Aa an "Add On" you can go off road and visit the Sani Pass and go int othe highlands of Lesotho. In the evening, the train departs for Bloemfontein.

Day Nine - Bloemfontein
This is the judicial capital of South Africa in the Orange Free State. A tour of the city, a visit to Naval Hill and lunch at the Waterfront. The train departs in the evening to Port Elizabeth.

Day Ten - Port Elizabeth
From here, a short drive to the famous Addo Elephant Park to see some of the 350 elephants that roam free. An aftenoon "Add On" is a visit to a township within the Nelson Mandela Metropole. The train travels to Oudtshoorn overnight.

Day Eleven - Klein Karoo
This area is reknown forthe Cango Caves and the breeding of Ostriches. You will have the opportunity to visit the caves as well as an unforgetable visit to an Ostrich Show Farm before returning to the train in Mossel Bay where it remains overnight.

Day Twelve - Garden Route
Drive along the coast from Mossel Bay to Geroge, situated on a 10 km plateau between majestic mountains to the north and the Indian Ocean to the south. Then head off to Knysna via the Old Passes Route. Knysna lies between lush forests and a peaceful lagoon. The Knysna "Heads" are two sandstone cliffs guarding the entrance to the lagoon. The train leaves Mossel Bay in the evening and travels to Worcester.

Day Thirteen - Winelands/Overberg Region
You enter the green fertile valleys of the Cape Winelands. From here several excurions are possible. There is the winelands visit to the historic town of Franschhoek and the second oldest town in the country - Stellenbosch. After luncjing here, you visit the town of Paarl which is overlooked by the second largest visable granite dome in the world. One wine tasting is included. Alternative trips are through the various passes that surround the winelands. "Add On" excursions in a Shark Cage dive or a Whale Boat safari. The train goes off furing the day to Cape Town which is where you will board it for a short ride to Muizenberg where it stays overnight.

Day Fourteen & Fifteen - Cape Town
And so to the last part of your journey - Cape Town - considered to be one of the most beautiful cities in the world. During the next two days you will have the opportunity to make various excursions including: A Cape Point Tour which includes going to Kirstenbosch Gardens, Chapman's Peak Drive, Cape Point, Cape of Good Hope, Boulders Rock Penguin colony and Simonstown naval harbour. "Add On" tours include the Two Oceans Aquarium visit, Robben Island Tour, Helicopter Peninsula flight and of course a cableway trip up Table Mountain. The train remains at Muizenberg for two nights.

Day Sixteen - Transfer Day
If you are staying on in South Africa then you will be transferred to your hotel or the airport if you are departing in the evening.

• Gold Cabin - bedroom/lounge and bathroom (two bunk beds)
• Commodore Cabin - bedroom/lounge with two single beds and bathroom
• Ivory Cabin - Two beds with shared bathroom
